I have been a lover of poetry for most of my life but Carl Sandburg is not on my list of favorite poets, even though he is from my town Chicago. In fact, I found some of his poems offensive and it is clear some of them seem to bring out his obvious bigotry. Nevertheless, I do like many of his poems and that is why I purchased this volume. Besides, I got it for a bargain price.

There are dozens of his poems in this excellent collection including his most famous one "Chicago." Some of the numerous poems in this 88 page volume includes the following: The harbor, Halsted street car, the walking man of Rodin, the shovel man, fish crier, happiness, child of the Romans, cripple, Onion days, working girls, fog, white light, killers, among the red guns, skyscraper, the road and the end, graves, to a dead man, a sphinx, under the harvest moon and numerous other interesting and thoughtful poems.

If you are a poetry lover you owe it to yourself to check out this collection of Carl Sandburg's Chicago Poems.

Good Sandburg earthy poetry.
thanks
One of the best ways to explore what literature means. Many people think it means something dull and hard to understand but read about Chicago as the city of big shoulders and you will nod with appreciation and contentment.
Great poetry
The fog comes
On little cat feet
I had bought a used edition of his complete poetry, but I enjoy having this with me all the time. The rhythms and words of the poems remind me, not only of Chicago, but any industrial town or city. It also remains contemporary as a lot of the improvements in safety and pay of workers is slowly being challenged once again by the corporations.
A recent death in the family prompted me to examine my life to see what I should be doing differently. The answer, one of them anyway, was I should be reading more poetry. So I got this little gem of a book from and read it through. Carl Sandburg was a master and one of the old time American poets who spoke simply and directly so that each of us could clearly understand. Fog is a typical example The fog comes in on little cat feet. It sits looking over harbor and city on silent haunches and then moves on. Wow! If that sounds like great writing it is because it is. I wish I could write a poem like that and I wish Chicago Poems would out sell my own poem book because it has so much more to offer.
